“SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A Sioux Falls woman is being recognized for the work she does advocating for the LGBTQ+ community in South Dakota. Susan Williams is one of this year’s Remarkable Women winners.

The Prism Center in Sioux Falls is South Dakota’s only community center dedicated to LGBTQ+ and Two Spirit people. It was opened in 2023 by the Transformation Project, which is a non-profit dedicated to supporting and empowering transgender individuals across the state. At the heart of both this space and the organization behind it is Susan Williams.”

A note from Susan:

"I can’t get over the shock of being chosen out of 12,000 nominees as one of the 125 Remarkable Women @remarkablewomenxst 2026 winners. It’s very humbling, and couldn’t be more grateful for this honor. I’m thrilled to share that they’ve awarded $1,000 to the Transformation Project in honor of this recognition!

I think I am like most people when I say I hardly feel “remarkable.” Like so many of you, I just want to make South Dakota a better place and try to do what I can. In a state like South Dakota, the trans and queer community face an uphill battle. However, I am so encouraged to see the sheer amount of people across the state who’ve been working alongside me and around the state to support, empower, educate and advocate.

It would not surprise anyone that my incredible husband Jeremy nominated me for this award. He’s been my rock, my business go-to guy, and my biggest supporter. Honestly, I could not have made the leap to found and run the Transformation Project and Transformation Project Advocacy Network without him. His constant support and encouragement are unmatched.

I want to thank KeloLand News @keloland for the opportunity to share what we do here at the Transformation Project, and how we are trying to make SD a place where trans and queer people can thrive.

I’m headed to Nashville for the Remarkable Women reward trip, and am so looking forward to meeting women from around the country who are making a difference! Stay tuned for pics!"
